This week, our founder Brady Quinn and Executive Director Megan Morris were honored to attend The Rock Ceremony at The Ohio State University an annual tradition that pays tribute to fallen Buckeye veterans.

The Rock Ceremony has deep roots, dating back to 1919, when “Taps” was first sounded each Wednesday to honor Ohio State alumni who lost their lives in World War I. Over the years, that simple act of remembrance evolved into today’s solemn annual ceremony, held near Veterans Day at the memorial rock outside Bricker Hall. The rock bears a bronze plaque dedicated to alumni who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

This moving event includes speeches, a wreath-laying at the memorial, a 21-gun salute, and the playing of “Taps” all powerful reminders of the courage, commitment, and selflessness of those who served. The ceremony stands as a timeless symbol of Ohio State’s deep respect for its military community and its fallen heroes.

We are especially proud that the 3rd & Goal Foundation has a meaningful connection to The Ohio State University through our Operation Education programming, which supports student veterans as they transition from military to academic life. Our peer 2 peer mentorship program helps veterans build confidence, find connection, and achieve success on campus and beyond.

Earlier this year, Ohio State President Ted Carter announced an ambitious 10-year plan to make Ohio State the most veteran-friendly university in the nation. We’re proud to stand alongside the university in that mission and believe that our Operation Education program plays an important role in helping make that vision a reality.
